2009
Is always today is a video diary project in which I registered domestic situations during my stay in Barcelona-Spain throughout 2009. At the same time my friend Natalia Oduber was doing the same from my home in Caracas-Venezuela.
Every night I uploaded the day’s recording to a Vimeo channel and then to a Tumblr, both titled like the project. In that virtual place were the two registries: Natalia-Gala, Caracas-Barcelona, my house-my house.
The trigger for the project was my curiosity about what my house was like without me, I wanted to capture my absence in that space. That’s how we decided to virtually weave our daily lives.
I use the image of knitting because I am interested in the gesture of the needle that crosses and joins two strands in a single artifact. Our intention was to cross two times, two time zones, two geographies, two domestic spaces at the same point.
The last video corresponds to the day of return to my house in Caracas.
Unfortunately Vimeo deleted the content over the years, so I leave here only a small sample of what I managed to recover from the depths of the internet.
This series is an appendix to a larger project entitled Disposable images.
Siempre es hoy
2009
Siempre es hoy es un proyecto de video-diario en el que registré situaciones domésticas durante mi estadía en Barcelona-España durante todo el año 2009. En paralelo mi amiga Natalia Oduber hacía lo mismo desde mi casa en Caracas-Venezuela.
Cada noche subía la grabación del día a un canal de Vimeo y luego a un Tumblr, ambos titulados como el proyecto. En ese lugar virtual se encontraban los dos registros: Natalia-Gala, Caracas-Barcelona, mi casa-mi casa.
El detonante del proyecto fue mi curiosidad por como era mi casa sin mí, quería retratar mi ausencia en ese espacio. Fue así como decidimos tejer virtualmente nuestras cotidianidades.
Uso la imagen de tejer porque me interesa el gesto de la aguja que atraviesa y une dos hilos en un solo artefacto. Nuestra intención era atravesar dos tiempos, dos husos horarios, dos geografías, dos espacios domésticos en un mismo punto.
El último video corresponde al día de mi regreso a mi casa en Caracas en 2010.
Lamentablemente Vimeo tumbó el contenido con el paso de los años, aquí solo dejo un pequeña muestra de lo que logre recuperar de los bajos fondos de internet.
Esta serie es un apéndice de otro proyecto más extenso titulado Imágenes Desechables.
