Homage to Ingres, Man Ray and Carmen Miranda

This image explores two great references that are the French painter Ingres and the great surrealist photographer Man Ray as opposed to a character from the popular culture that is Carmen Miranda. The three women portrayed, Ingres’s model, Man Ray’s model and Carmen Miranda herself, were beauty icons at the time. This piece also poses a superposition of canons of feminine beauty through time. As part of this action, I tattooed the violin efes on the back and prepared to embody the gestures of these three women.

Esta imagen explora dos grandes referentes que son el pintor francés Ingres y el gran fotógrafo surrealista Man Ray en contraposición a un personaje de la cultura popular que es Carmen Miranda. Las tres mujeres retratadas, la modelo de Ingres, la de Man Ray y la misma Carmen Miranda, fueron íconos de belleza en su momento. Esta pieza también plantea una superposición de cánones de belleza femenino a través del tiempo. Como parte de esta acción, me tatué las efes del violín en la espalda y me dispuse a encarnar los gestos de estas tres mujeres.
